Got my new Kanwrite Zoom nib today!

Got my new Kanwrite Zoom nib today! First impressions? Not totally sold on it yet. Played around a bit, and honestly, I was hoping for more line variation. Guess that’s just not how this nib works—yeah, I know it’s not a fude nib, but still, I expected a little extra. Well, nothing I can do now. Maybe with time, I’ll warm up to it, and it might even become my go-to pen. Let’s see how things pan out!

Today presented an ideal opportunity for engaging in photography

Today presented an ideal opportunity for engaging in photography. I visited a location that had attracted numerous photographers who had gathered to capture the Nil Shasthi festivities, held on the eve of Charak. Instead of carrying my camera, however, I chose to bring along my sketchbook, intending to attempt sketching individuals in motion. Upon arrival, I quickly realized that my skills were not yet at a level sufficient to undertake such a demanding task. The space was extremely confined and crowded, with constant movement as people rushed to take photographs. Attempting to create a sketch while standing amidst such a dynamic and bustling environment proved to be an overwhelming challenge. As an alternative, I decided to take a few photographs with my phone, intending to use them as references for sketches later at home. This approach will allow me to preserve the memories of the event while ensuring that the pages of my sketchbook are meaningfully filled.

Trying to shift in loose sheets

Trying to shift in loose sheets, I created one sketchbook with them yesterday. Today was the day to tear apart a new sketchbook I purchased in Shimla because I wanted to use the hard cover with the band, which is so convenient. So, I tore out the pages and sewed them together to create my own sketchbook—and managed to make three more from it.

I ordered another version of the Kanwrite nib

I ordered another version of the Kanwrite nib after viewing the Sailor Zoom nib and seeing that Kanwrite also makes one. Though they use BB and BBB versions, I believe BB will be best for me. They also have the Fude nib, which is somewhat less expensive, but I do not believe I need another one as I already have two Jonhao Fude nib pens. I really wanted to use my Kanwrite pen as often as possible because it holds more ink than the Jinhao pens. I hope the Zoom nib works well; the Ultraflex nib is good, but I do not like it for quick sketches.

I have not touched my violin in over a week

I have not touched my violin in over a week. Seeing the instrument collect the neglect was depressing. Even though I was not sure tonight, I ultimately chose to play it. There must be a break, or else things become monotonous. Even though I did not want to take such a long break, I am unable to do so anytime soon due to a health issue. In any case, I am somewhat relieved that it is playing in my hand once more today. Actually, it plays well today, and I am happy with it.

The local repair guy tried fixing it

The local repair guy tried fixing it and did a pretty good job. Honestly, he got it back to how it was when I first bought it. But he said it’s a manufacturing defect, and there’s nothing more that can be done. So now, I just have to deal with a slightly misaligned feed. I tried opening it again myself, but it’s super tough to pull apart by hand. I am now a little worried about future feed cleaning.

Kanwrite Ultraflex Nib

Two days ago, when I purchased the Kanwrite Ultraflex Nib Pen, I noticed the feed was slightly misaligned. While it wasn’t perfect, I felt confident I could fix it. Today, I decided to give it a shot and attempted to remove the feed. After plenty of pulling and rotating, the issue worsened, and the feed became more twisted. As a result, the pen appears to be non-functional. After contacting customer support, they recommended sending the pen to them for repair. I am considering taking it to a local pen repair shop to explore possible solutions.

Olive brown with a fude nib

Olive brown with a fude nib, finish with water splashes, and pick color from the nib.
